Gayhead beach

Fairly easy trail and such a special beach with incredible views of the cliffs. If you want to get down on the beach there is the Moshup Beach/Aquinnah Public Beach Parking Lot that you can use and then head down to Moshup Beach. The beach takes longer than you think!

There is also free public parking at the cliffs if you are making a quick stop to check out the view. This is a must visit on your Vineyard trip. Lunches on the beach. It was actually Travel Channels "6th Best Walking Beach in America"! Beautiful area that leads to quaint shops and local food and coffee.

Gay Head's public beach in Aquinnah is known for its scenery and surf. There is a $ Aquinnah (formerly Gay Head) is the least populous town on the island. Moderately challenging with very little traffic. Only possible at lower states of the tide. Don't know why these cliffs aren't advertised more, they are very cool!

As you can guess, the lot fills quickly on nice summer days! Beautiful sunset walk back to the lot. Beach has large rocks and moderate to large waves, depending on the day. No shade. Rolling hills with mix of shade, sun and some beautiful views. Home to the storied Aquinnah cliffs, and the Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah).

This parking is limited to a 30 minute time frame and a police officer is on duty. Not sure why the description indicates it's "near Chilmark"? Visited with four adults and two kids 9, 3. Stunning and peaceful! Try and go during low tide because of the rocks. See nearby Philbin Beach.

Some incline on the walk back up. Aquinnah Public Beach - Aquinnah beach. Part of the beach towards the end of trail is a nude beach. For the more adventurous, there is a nude beach section as well. The adjacent Gay Head Cliffs are a National Landmark and were seriously endangered by climbing on the cliffs and removal of the clay.

Worth heading back up the beach towards the lighthouse. Good to Know. The beach is approximately a ten-minute walk from the parking lot on a scenic, cleared trail.

In addition to the Gay Head Lighthouse there’s also a small museum to check out known as the Aquinnah Cultural Center. This beach is now off-limits. Moshup Beach (Gay Head Public Beach) is open to the public, and offers stunning views of the multicolored clay cliffs. Parking of private vehicles in the Aquinnah town parking lot is limited to about 50 vehicles and costs $35/day.

Aquinnah Cliffs was the most magical place ever! Savored the afternoon sun. Moshup Beach runs from Philbin Beach to the unique red-clay Gay Head Cliffs. Absolutely beautiful! Beach visitors can also drop off and pick up at the foot of the trail near the restrooms.
